Haragis helicopter crash, 4 years ago

Today it turns four years since the air tragedy in the village of Haragîş, Cantemir district. On June 2, 2016, a SMURD helicopter, on a mission in our country, crashed. All four crew members lost their lives. The two pilots, a doctor and a nurse were on board of the aircraft, Radio Moldova reports.

The SMURD helicopter was requested by the doctors from Vulcăneşti, in order to transport an 85-year-old woman. The old woman suffered from bronchopneumonia, acute respiratory and renal failure.

The aircraft crashed due to adverse weather conditions.

The Government of the Republic of Moldova offered one million lei each to the families of the victims, and the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, post-mortem decorated the four SMURD employees, who died by trying to save another life.

One year after the air tragedy, a memorial complex was inaugurated in Haragîş.

A memorial service for the victims will be held today.
