Daniel Ionita: Moldova risks losing 60 million euros in financial assistance provided by Romania

The Republic of Moldova risks losing 60 million euros of the non-reimbursable financial assistance amounting to 100 million euros granted by Romania through the agreement signed in 2010. This can happen if the Government of Chisinau does not sign by April this year, the additional protocol by which the 2010 agreement was extended. The statements were made by the Romanian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Daniel Ionita on a TV channel, Radio Moldova reports.

"Protocol No. 6 is in fact an additional act to the 100 million grant agreement, which will expire in April this year. If the implementation validity of the ongoing projects is not prolonged and if we do not find the way to finance other projects from the money we still have, there is a great risk that about 60 million euros will be lost by the Republic of Moldova ", said the ambassador.

Daniel Ionita underlined that the Romanian side sent this protocol to Chisinau as early as November 2020. Now, the Constitutional Court will have to decide whether the interim Government led by Aureliu Ciocoi will be able to sign international treaties.

The head of the Romanian diplomatic mission also pointed that “protocol six aims on the one hand to extend by another five years the grant agreement by one hundred million, and on the other hand to extend the projects that are being implemented, not to lose the money already allocated ".
