The Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will be finalized by August 1

The Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipe-line will be completed by August 1, 2020. This was announced by the general manager of "Transgaz", Ion Sterian, during a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Sergiu Railean.

As stated by the Ministry of Economy, the parties discussed the process of implementing the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline project, the works to be carried out to complete investments in both the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

According to Ion Sterian, from the beginning of 2019 until now, works have been carried out on all seven lots related to construction, the linear pipeline being already built in a proportion of about 90%. In the process of completion, there are adjustment and measuring stations. In the following period, two compression and regulation stations will be modernized in the localities of Siliştea and Oneşti, located on the Romanian side and two gas pressure measurement and regulation stations at Ghidighici and Tohatin will be installed.

"By August 1, 2020, we are ready to put the Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline into operation. At this stage, 1.5 million m3 of gas per day will be able to be delivered through the gas pipeline, and by December 1, we will be able to ensure the transportation of 2-3 million m3of gas per day. After the installation of the compression and regulation station in Gherăeşti, by January 1, 2021, we will be able to transport 4 million m3of gas per day to the Republic of Moldova," said the director of Transgaz.

Sergiu Răilean appreciated the progress of the works on the gas pipeline, underlining the importance of this strategic project for ensuring the national energy security.

"The launch of this strategic project is expected by the Republic of Moldova. It is important to successfully complete the construction of the pipeline in the proposed terms, despite all the challenges we face along the way. I assure you that we will come with all the necessary support for the development of new projects in the field of gas distribution," said Sergiu Railean.

The Romanian side also stated its intention to contribute to the development of the national gas distribution system, including through the construction of a gas compression station in the Republic of Moldova.
