Snow and sleet most affected road traffic in the south of the country

Snow and sleet are recorded on the roads in the center and south of the country, and drivers say that the road is wet, in some places it is slippery, which makes traffic difficult. In this regard, the representatives of the National Inspectorate of Public Safety warn drivers to drive carefully and to equip their car with winter tires. Meanwhile, the State Road Administration (ASD) claims that anti-skid material has been spread on the most affected sectors of national roads since last night, reports Moldova 1.

Road users have spread anti-theft material on several dangerous areas. For example, Drumuri Ialoveni spread about 50 tons of the more than 420 tons of anti-skid material positioned along the road. Currently, more than 200 workers serve 620 kilometers of national routes and 186 local roads.

According to officials, in the last 24 hours, almost 140 tons of anti-skid material were spread on the most difficult sections of national roads.

"In the southern area, in the districts of Cahul, Cantemir, Leova, as well as Causeni, Stefan Voda and ATU Gagauzia, interventions were made. Due to the anti-skid spread of about 137 tons, the quantity is small, but the temperatures are positive, in order not to allow the formation of icing at night, respectively all the precipitation on the road was removed by trucks equipped with a rubber blade," said Ion Drucec, deputy head of ASD.

Due to the fact that last winter was quite mild, about 85% of the anti-skid materials that were expected to be used last year remained in ASD.

According to patrol officers, 90 percent of the drivers who were checked had their cars ready for the winter.

Drivers who have not properly equipped their cars risk fines between 900 and 1,500 lei for individuals and between 4,500 - 6,000 lei for legal entities, as well as penalty points.
