The SCM approved the resignation request of the judge examining Ilan Şor's case

The members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) accepted, during today's meeting, the decision regarding the resignation of Judge Nina Veleva, who was investigating Ilan Şor's case, Moldova 1 reports.

The magistrate submitted a resignation request on December 22. SCM members requested a report on the file they are examining.

TRM.MD recalls that Ilan Şor's case has been pending at the Cahul Court of Appeal since September 2018, and several judges from the Chisinau Court of Appeal have previously invoked various reasons to refrain from examining this case. In 2017, Ilan Şor was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for fraud and money laundering. However, the punishment will enter into force only after it becomes final.
