76 years since the Iasi-Chisinau operation, commemorated in Serpeni

August 24 marks the 76th anniversary of the Iasi-Chisinau operation. On this occasion, President Igor Dodon, Ambassador of the Russian Federation Oleg Vasnetov, deputies to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, veterans of the Great War for the Defense of the Fatherland, participated in the commemorative ceremony at the Memorial Complex "Capul de Pod Șerpeni".

"During the liberation struggle and during this operation, officers and generals demonstrated unprecedented heroism and military skills. In August 1944 alone, about 20,000 soldiers and officers on the second and third fronts of the Red Army were decorated with orders and medals for courage and bravery. Unfortunately, I find that the farther we go from the tragedy of that war, the harder it is for us to become fully aware of the exceptional human qualities that were peculiar to each soldier and officer of that army of liberators. That is why it is our moral responsibility to bow down to the soldiers who won us the freedom of the Moldova land,” the head of state mentioned.

The Party of Socialists carried out the "Immortal Regiment" car race, from the "Eternitate" Memorial Complex in Chisinau to the "Capul de Pod Șerpeni" Memorial Complex. The event was attended by about 200 cars, including retro and some that were on the battlefield for the defense of the Fatherland.

According to the data, in August 1944, in the locality of Şerpeni from Anenii Noi, more than 14 thousand Soviet soldiers who fought for the liberation of Moldova from the fascist occupation, involved in the Iasi-Chisinau operation, died.
