Children in kindergartens in Gagauzia learn three languages

Despite the trends of globalization, they do not forget where they were born. Residents of the Gagauz region, who mostly speak Russian, continue to promote Gagauz language. And just as language learning is easier at an early age, little kids in kindergarten learn three languages. People say that multilingualism is the key to an educated society, Moldova 1 reports.

With the support of international partners, children attending kindergartens in the Gagauz autonomy have the opportunity to learn three languages: mother tongue, Gagauz, Russian and Romanian. An example is the kindergarten no. 9 from Comrat.

"In 2012 we opened the first pilot groups, in which the children spoke one day in the Gagauz language, and another day - in Romanian. We have all the necessary literature for our teachers to teach children both languages correctly. We want the child to have three languages upon graduation from kindergarten: Russian, Gagauz and Romanian ", said the director of kindergarten no. 9 from Comrat, Ana Croitor.

In the kindergarten no. 6 in Comrat, the children communicate one day in Russian, and in another - in Romanian.

"Bilingual learning in our kindergarten takes place thanks to the ANTEM program. Coming to kindergarten, the child speaks both Gagauz and Romanian. We use methods such as books, drawings, songs, which we sometimes compose ourselves ", says Ana Grecianiuc, educator.

As the learning of several languages from an early age is successful, the Comrat authorities intend to implement the project in other schools as well.

"Most of the inhabitants of Gagauzia speak Russian, but lately the situation is changing and we hear the Gagauz language more and more frequently. A budget has been created for the development of the Gagauz language, which also finances teachers and students who are interested in learning their mother tongue",said Irina Vlah, the governor of Gagauzia.

The library has a great diversity of books and helps those interested in the efficient learning of the three languages. The children's library in Comrat has over 2,000 readers, and the book collection is impressive - about 31,000 copies.

In 2020, it turns 63 years since the first Gagauz alphabet appeared.
