Acting PM Aureliu Ciocoi meets European Union’s Ambassador to Chisinau, Peter Michalko

The functionality of the executive structures will be ensured during the crisis, until a new Government is established. This was announced by the acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today in a meeting with the European Union’s Ambassador to Chisinau, Peter Michalko. The importance of judicial reform, the importance of providing the COVID-19 vaccine for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova or the long-term multilateral cooperation, were just some of the topics addressed during the meeting by the two officials.

According to a press release  issued by the Government, during the meeting, the interim Prime Minister assured that the current Government will do everything possible, in accordance with the legal attributions, to continue the implementation of the actions provided in the Association Agreement with the EU and DCFTA. At the same time, Aureliu Ciocoi thanked the European Union for the constant support to Moldova, including on the economic and healthcare dimension.

In turn. the head of the EU Delegation briefed the interim Prime Minister on the results of the visit of the President of the Republic of Moldova to Brussels and reviewed the necessary agreed actions.

Officials stressed the importance of providing the COVID-19 vaccine to citizens as soon as possible. Aureliu Ciocoi mentioned that the medical-sanitary institutions from Moldova are ready to start the vaccination process.

"In this regard, the National Immunization Plan against COVID-19 was approved, which describes the organizational stages and responsibilities throughout the vaccination chain. At the same time, the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices is ready for the registration, in the national system, of internationally recognized vaccines. The Ministry of Occupational Health and Social Protection sent, on January 15, all the necessary set for receiving vaccines on the Covax platform, an amount that will cover 20% of the country's population, including the Transnistrian region ", reads the press release.

The head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau confirmed the readiness of the European Union to allocate to Moldova 21.4 million euros from the police reform support program, as well as the signing of the 15 million euro Resilience contract in the form of a grant. Financial assistance is intended to increase response capacity in the context of the pandemic situation.

The officials also addressed the importance of reforming the judiciary and building strong institutions, priority issues for boosting Moldova's cooperation with the EU. The parties also reviewed other topics related to long-term multilateral cooperation, including on the Eastern Partnership platform.
