On Monday, April 4, a day of national mourning is declared in the Republic of Moldova in memory of those who died as a result of the war launched by the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
The announcement was made by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu. "We are shocked, along with the whole world, by the massacre in the town of Bucha near Kyiv. Moldova strongly condemns these crimes against humanity, just as it condemns this illegal and unprovoked war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. We will declare tomorrow, April 4, 2022, a day of national mourning in memory of all the innocent lives lost, in the last 39 days, in Ukraine," according to the head of state.
"I am appalled by the images that have appeared in the cities of Bucha, Irpin and Hostomel, with hundreds of civilians killed and left on the streets. The Republic of Moldova strongly condemns the massacre in the Kyiv region, and those responsible must be held accountable. We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the Ukrainian people. Tomorrow, April 4, 2022, in the Republic of Moldova, will be declared a day of national mourning in memory of all the innocent lives lost in the last 39 days in Ukraine," wrote the head of the Legislature, Igor Grosu.

The Republic of Moldova strongly condemns the massacre of civilians, and those responsible must be held accountable. We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the Ukrainian people," is the text of another post on the page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
After five weeks of fighting, Russian troops withdrew from towns around Kiev. In Bucha, a town near Irpin and located 37 kilometres northwest of Kyiv, at least 300 civilians were killed. Most of the victims of war crimes committed by the Russian army in the region have been buried in mass graves, while some bodies are still on the streets of the city, according to Reuters.
