The "TeleFilm - Chisinau" documentaries, screened at the Council of Europe

Six documentaries from the "My Europe" cycle and the "Soroca Grand Theater" film, awarded with the ADAMI - 2018 Cultural Diversity Award, were screened at the Council of Europe on February 8 at the summit meeting of the project "Promoting Freedom and Pluralism in Mass- media in the Republic of Moldova", implemented with the support of the Council of Europe and the European Union, reads a press release of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe.

"The project helped initiate serious debates on media pluralism and create a dialogue between the press and institutions aimed at ensuring the functioning of an independent media inherent in a rule of law. Thus, in appreciation and thanks to the partners of this project, it was presented the documentary film "The Big Theater in Soroca", directed by Eugeniu Popovici, awarded with the ADAMI 2018 Award for Cultural Diversity in Eastern Europe", stated at the opening of the event Corina Călugăru, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe.

Patrick Penninckx, head of the Council of Europe's Information Society department, said the production of eight documentary films in this project is the most visible result.

"These results demonstrate that our projects act as a catalyst for change, and the partners are making this change and taking advantage of these opportunities," said the Council of Europe official.

Mircea Surdu, director of Telefilm - Chişinău, thanked for the support, emphasizing the importance of the documentary film, which is a more specialized journalistic essay, which brings to the audience the social and cultural themes that are acute and important for a young society in transition, like the one the Republic of Moldova is.

The project has been implemented over a two-year period, being part of the Council of Europe Action Plan (PA) for Moldova 2017-2020.

"The Action Plan is, of course, far from being complete: more work is being done to strengthen national capacities in the ongoing reforms. The Council of Europe greatly appreciates the efforts of the Permanent Representation to engage constructively - with initiatives such as the meeting today. We need continued support to further strengthen the pluralism of the media and to help the Republic of Moldova make progress in the challenges it faces in this area. As our work continues, the award-winning film is a good reminder of what we can do," said Deputy Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni.

The project "Promoting Media Freedom and Pluralism in the Republic of Moldova", implemented with the support of the Council of Europe and the European Union contributed to the elaboration and adoption of the new normative framework, including the Audiovisual Media Services Code, but also to the development of the media capacities of the beneficiary institutions Audiovisual Council, IPNA "Teleradio - Moldova", "Teleradio - Gagauzia", creation of Continuing Training Center at "Teleradio - Moldova", re - launch of "Telefilm - Chisinau" studio.
