A new explosion near a church in Sri Lanka

A van parked near a Sri Lankan church, where dozens of people were killed on Sunday, exploded Monday. This was reported by a witness to Reuters, according to whom the deflagration occurred when a team of sappers tried to defuse an explosive device, Agerpres writes.

"The van exploded when the STF (Special Rapid Reaction Force) demining team and the air force tried to defuse the bomb," said the quoted witness.

The spokesman for the security forces has not commented yet.

TRM.MD mentions that approximately 290 people were killed and 500 injured in suicide bombings committed in Sri Lanka on Sunday. The attacks on several churches and hotels have been committed by seven suicide bombers, who are part of a local Islamic group called National Thowfeek Jamaath, a government official said Monday, quoted by Mediafax.
