Minister of Finance: First installment of EU financial assistance will be transferred in coming days

European Union (EU) financial assistance worth 14, 5 million euros will be transferred to the Republic of Moldova in the coming days, said EU Ambassador Peter Michalko, Radio Moldova reports.

"This EU support has been suspended during the previous government. By firm political will and actions of the Government and Parliament, we have succeeded  to unblock EU assistance", the minister wrote in a post.

We would like to remind that the payment of the first installment of the current Macrofinancial Assistance program (MFA)  to the amount of EUR 100 million was suspended in July 2018. The decision was taken following the evolution of the political events in Moldova and mainly taking into account the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice dated  25 June 2018 to invalidate the election results for the Chisinau City Hall.

Last year, the European Parliament voted a resolution urging the European Commission to "suspend any MFA payments to Moldova" and at the same time "to suspend budget support for Moldova, using the precedent of July 2015, when such a suspension happened  as a result of the banking crisis. "
