Ion Lazarenco Tiron, nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

He is the first and only man in the world to cross the world's most dangerous seven straits. The Moldovan swimmer Ion Lazarenco Tiron became the first citizen of the Republic of Moldova nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, Moldova 1 TV reports.

Starting with his first project to swim 240 km on the Nistru, the athlete wants to attract the attention of mankind on the importance of peace and non-discrimination.

Ion Lazarenco Tiron was born in Brăviceni village, Orhei district   and settled with his  family for almost 20 years in Ireland, where he discovered his passion for swimming. Even if he is far away, he never forgets his native places, every time he returns to Moldova, makes charity and inspires young people to practice sports. Ion Lazarenco has been declared "Best Swimmer of Ireland" for three consecutive years, becoming the first person  in the world to cross the first seven straits. Though he lives in Ireland, the athlete swims as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova and draws the community's attention to the Transnistrian conflict.

His first project was the " Nistru Peace Swim", 240 km distance crossed in 8 days for charity. Another project made with a message of peace and friendship is " The Nistru unites Moldova". For remarkable activity and contribution to the promotion of the image of the Republic of Moldova, the athlete was awarded the Diploma of Honor of the Government. Recently, Lazarenco's candidacy was accepted to be proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize. Laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in December.
