Almost half of residents of Chisinau will spend between one thousand and three thousand lei for clothes for their pupils

Almost half of the families in Chisinau will spend between one thousand and three thousand lei (50 - 150 euros) to buy clothes for children at school. Also, each second resident of Chisinau will spend 500-1000 lei for school supplies, reads a survey published by a research company, Moldpres reports.

The survey reveals that 21% of Chisinau families have children who will go to school in September. Almost half of them have higher education, each third earns 10 and 15 thousand lei a month, and 51 percent do skilled work. Six out of ten respondents preparing their children for a new school year are women, as they do shopping for children.

Nine out of ten residents of  Chisinau plan to buy new outfits (clothing, footwear) for children who will go to school in September. All of them will buy school supplies.  Children of  66% of the respondents will buy  new schoolbags and more than half will buy gifts or flowers for teachers. International data show that in the US, in 2019, school supplies (94%) and clothes (92%) will be bought to a large extent during school preparations. 16% of Moldovans plan to buy gadgets for students.

45% of the families in Chisinau will spend between 1000 and 3000 lei just to dress their school children. Two out of ten will use more than 4,000 lei for children's clothing and footwear, and only 8 percent - less than 1000 lei. Families with higher incomes are planning to spend more for new school outfits - 35% of those with incomes between 10 and 15 thousand lei will spend more than 3000 lei to this effect.

For school supplies, Chisinau will pay between 500 and 1000 lei – said 45% of the respondents. In the US, a family plans to spend far more than Moldovans to prepare their school children  for school- on average $ 696 (about  12,235 lei).

The survey was carried out by Magenta Consulting, on a sample of 951 inhabitants of Chisinau, over 18 years old and has a margin of error of 3%. The data were collected between July and August 2019.
