Almost two million Moldovans are connected to drinking water sources

Over 57,000 inhabitants of the rural area benefit of tap water daily, while 64 general education institutions and two camps in the Republic of Moldova have clean and comfortable toilet. The data was presented during the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the ApaSan program financed by Austria and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Minister of Regional Development and Environment, Nicolae Ciubuc said that the implemented objectives are vital for the villages in our country, Radio Moldova reports.

"By approving the national development strategy for 2030, we have set basic goals such as ensuring a healthy environment, ensuring access to drinking water sources. According to statistical data, in 2017, the total population connected to the water source accounted for 1.9 million people, of whom about 90% were living in urban areas," said Minister of Regional Development and Environment, Nicolae Ciubuc.

Mayor of Şerpeni, Anenii Noi district, Elena Nicolaev, spoke about the projects that were implemented with the help of the ApaSun program. "We have built a system with a two-well capture area with a system where iron and ammonium accumulate. We have a 4,080-meter pipeline, a distribution platform with 200 cubic meters of water and a pumping station," said Mayor of Şerpeni, Anenii Noi district, Elena Nicolaev.

The ApaSan project combines policy-influencing activities, institutional strengthening and infrastructure development support to enable Moldovan institutions at all levels to better respond to the needs of rural populations in water supply and sanitation services.
