Dynamics of sexual abuse are alarming in the country

A 49-year-old Criuleni resident was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for sexual acts committed over a 5-year-old girl. The Prosecutor's Office demonstrated that between 2017 and 2018, the defendant committed sexual actions on the neighbor's daughter, with whom he lived in the same household. Thus, for about a year, by physical and mental constraint, the defendant sexually abused the child, while her mother was working in the garden. The case was only unveiled after the child told the educator about the actions of the defendant, immediately alerting the people of the law, and the aggressor - detained and subsequently arrested.

Being heard by prosecutors, he did not recognize his blame. Along with the imprisonment, the defendant was ordered to pay the injured party a moral and material damage caused by the offense, reads a press release issued by the Prosecutor's Office.

To note that after the case came to light, another young woman said she was sexually abused by the same person while she was a minor. The case is investigated in a separate procedure. The Ungheni District Court has recently sentenced to 11 years in prison, with execution, a young man who has sexually abused his own mother. Such cases are not unique.

Regretfully, sexual abuses make the daily operating agenda abound in such cases, the phenomenon being alarming for the Republic of Moldova. More often, among the offenders are members of the family, friends or those with whom the victims cohabit. Often victims of these crimes are minors, impaired people or vulnerable to the aggressor.

In every case of rape, prosecutors advocate for the deprivation of the freedom of the aggressors by requesting in court their conviction to the maximum punishments provided by national law and in line with the ECtHR doctrines.

Even if many criminals later regret what has been done, the consequences for the victim are irreversible, and the punishment to be applied to the violator - inevitable.

Statistics show that during the last year 611 offenses related to sexual life were committed in the country, during which 115 perpetrators were sentenced to penalties with executions.

At present, 1,899 people or every fifth convict are penalized for sexual offenses in penitentiaries in the country.
