Moldova loses a case at the ECtHR

The Republic of Moldova is obliged to pay 7,500 euros in the form of material and moral damages and 1,500 euros for representation expenses before the ECtHR, to a minor, following the inefficient investigation of a rape case in Tighina. The ECtHR decision refers to a rape case that was reported to the Government of the Republic of Moldova on September 20, 2019, Radio Moldova reports.

The case happened on June 25, 2011 in Bender, when a minor with mental health disorders was sexually assaulted by a neighbor while her mother was not at home.

The criminal investigation into this case took place with several violations and violations. On April 24, 2013, the Tighina District Court sentenced the man to three years and two months in prison, conditionally suspending the execution of his sentence with a probation period of two years. At the same time, he forced him to pay ten thousand lei for the damage caused.

The case was taken over and represented before the ECtHR by the lawyers of the Promo-LEX Association.
