A monument of the poet Adam Mickiewicz, installed in Chisinau

A beautiful bronze monument recently appeared in the Telecentru neighbourhood. The work of art represents the great Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz and was installed in front of the Polish book and culture library named after the genius poet Adam Mickiewicz, reports Moldova 1.

Since the inauguration of the Polish Book Library in 2007, the idea of inaugurating in front of the institution a statue dedicated to Adam Mickieweicz, poet and symbol of the struggle for the independence and reunification of Poland, has been launched. The monument was installed on December 24, 222 years after the poet's birth.

"A symbol of Polish culture and literature that we together with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Chisinau tried to bring closer to the people of Chisinau, to people of culture who want to know more about the poetry written by Mickiewicz, which was a revolutionary one. Mickiewicz was a traveler around the world and through this sculpture he also reached Chisinau," said Ludmila Gumene, director of the "Adam Mickieweicz" Library.

Those who know less the value of the creation of the great Polish poet, but also the library employees who loved and promoted the work and deeds of Adam Mickiewicz are delighted with the erection of the monument in this space.

The author of the monument is the sculptor Veaceslav Jigliţchi, also of Polish origin.

The cultural project was financially supported by the Polish Embassy in Chisinau, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw, as well as by Polish entrepreneurs who value and promote national values at home and in the world. The official inauguration of the Adam Mickiewicz monument will take place after the holidays.
