Civil society, informed about the legal norms applied to the aggressors

The "16 days of activism against gender-based violence" campaign, launched by the General Inspectorate of Police (IGP), continues. Thus, the second stage of the campaign focuses on informing the population about the legal norms applied to domestic aggressors. Thus, among other things, the aggressor may be forced to temporarily leave the common home or stay away from home, being monitored with the help of an electronic bracelet. According to official data, in the last two years alone, police have issued more than 7,000 emergency restraining orders, with victims receiving urgent state protection.

Police say they detect a case of domestic violence every three days. Thus, compared to previous years, the number of victims has increased. For example, since the beginning of the year alone, 3,650 cases have been documented in which the aggressor did not comply with the restraining order.

"We go to the place where this case of domestic violence is found, a risk assessment questionnaire is drawn up, where it is found how serious the risk of domestic violence is in this case. An emergency restraining order is immediately drawn up," says Olga Poraico, officer, Buiucani Police Inspectorate.

"Recently, there is an increase in cases of domestic violence. Out of the total protection ordinances for the period 2020, 219 again we refer to the fact that they were violated by family aggressors, criminal cases being started based on article 320 by the Criminal Code," said Artur Dilion, officer at the General Inspectorate of Police.

Police warn that domestic violence is a crime punishable by 3 to 15 years in prison. At the same time, the authorities urge people who are victims of domestic violence to call without hesitation the emergency number 112 or the Women's Hotline: 080088008.
