Fuel prices continue to rise

Fuel prices continue to rise. Some fuel stations today displayed a new price increase, the second in just one week. While drivers are unhappy that they will have to take more out of their pockets, although revenues remain unchanged, economic experts have an explanation. They claim that the new tariffs are determined by the increase in the price of oil on the world market, reports Moldova 1.

A standard 95 liter of gasoline ended up costing 18,25 lei, the price increasing, on average, by 0,60 lei. Diesel fuel became more expensive by 0,50 lei, currently costing 15,55 lei on average. And the liquefied gas became more expensive by 0,65 lei.

Drivers say the frequent rise in fuel prices is affecting their spending, especially during the difficult pandemic.

Contacted by Moldova 1, the economic expert Viorel Gîrbu stated that the current price of fuel is conditioned by the increase of the price per barrel of oil, but also by the increase of the excise duty for the import of fuels in our country.

"The main cause, from my point of view, is related to the increase of oil quotations on the international markets. Oil has reached a maximum in the last period of time and this is an important factor. Another aspect is related to the stocks that traders had in the following period. The fuel is imported at a higher price, being included in the price and higher excises," said Viorel Gîrbu, economic expert.

This is already the fourth significant increase in fuel prices in the last two months. Thus, during this period, gasoline became more expensive by almost three lei for a liter, and diesel by 2,50 lei.
