Over 300 criminal cases for bank card thefts

Since the beginning of the year, the police have started 300 criminal cases for bank card thefts with a total damage of approximately three million lei. People suspected of the crime risk up to 15 years in prison.

In this context, the Directorate for cybercrime investigations of the National Investigation Inspectorate of the PGI and the commercial banks of the Republic of Moldova repeatedly come with a call to the citizens to be vigilant and to respect the security rules.

Do not disclose personal information or bank card details to anyone (or bank staff). To verify that you are indeed being called by the bank's employees, call independently the telephone numbers indicated on the web pages of the commercial banks or those indicated on the bank cards, for verification. Do not pass the card on to third parties, leave the bank card in plain sight, or allow strangers to take pictures or copy card data. Check your account statement monthly so that if suspicious transactions occur, contact your bank as soon as possible.

If you suspect fraud or suspicious activity, contact Customer Service immediately at the number on the back of the card, available 24 hours a day.
