The OSCE calls on the Moldovan authorities to facilitate the travel of foreign journalists

The OSCE calls on Moldovan authorities to facilitate travel of foreign journalists. The appeal comes after March 13, when two Greek investigative journalists, Aggelos Provolisianos and Vangelis Triantis, were detained for 40 minutes on Chisinau International Airport by the Border Police, on the grounds that they would not have been accredited to journalistic activity in Moldova.

"Following the refusal of two Greek journalists to enter Moldova on March 13, I appeal again to the Moldovan authorities to facilitate the journeys of foreign journalists from one OSCE country to another," wrote OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Press, Harlem Desir, on his Twitter page.

According to the anticoruption.md portal, journalists reported that during the checking of passports at the Airport, they were asked about the purpose of their arrival in the Republic of Moldova. In response they said they came for a professional purpose. "We were told that we do not have permission to enter the Republic of Moldova and that we need accreditation to carry out journalistic activity. Then we were invited to an office in which we were detained for 30-40 minutes," the journalists told the quoted source. The two were released after the involvement of the Greek Ambassador to Moldova residing in Kiev.

Representatives of the Border Police at Chisinau Airport said it was a routine check, with Greek citizens being asked to answer several questions.
