Events on the 76th anniversary of the Iasi-Chisinau operation

The 76th anniversary of the liberation of Moldova from fascist troops was marked by the laying of flowers at the "Eternitate" Memorial Complex. The ceremony took place without public and was attended by top officials : the President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, the President of the Parliament, Zinaida Greceanii, the Prime Minister Ion Chicu, but also representatives of the diplomatic corps, informs Moldova 1.

On August 24, 1944, the Soviet troops won the Operation Iasi-Chisinau and finally liberated, after three years of fascist occupation, the territory of the Moldovan SSR.

Operation Iasi-Chisinau is known as one of the largest and fiercest military operations in the years of World War II.

"It is our sacred duty to evoke together each year one of the most glorious pages of our history and to express endless gratitude to the liberators, veterans and soldiers who fell in this operation," President Igor Dodon wrote in a post on Facebook.
