No case of Covid -19 virus infection has been confirmed in the Republic of Moldova

In the Republic of Moldova, so far, no case of coronavirus infection has been confirmed. The medical institutions are ready to face the new challenges, and the authorities have taken a series of measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the Republic of Moldova. Statements in this regard were made today, February 27, at the Parliament meeting by Viorica Dumbrăveanu, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection.

At the request of the deputies, Viorica Dumbrăveanu was heard in the Parliament plenary on the epidemiological situation caused by the new Covid-19 virus.

She reported that no case of coronavirus infection was registered in the Republic of Moldova.

"At present, there is no case of coronavirus infection. Yes, I admit that we have had cases when people were suspected of being infected with coronavirus. Including, it's about the people who returned from northern Italy. The tests have been made, the tests applied, the infection excluded and at the moment it is not. At the same time, I want to assure you that it is not in the interest of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, of anyone in general, to hide the existence of any case. The existence of a case that is registered implies another level, in the case of alert and another level of measures that must be taken and precautionary measures that must be taken also by the educational institutions, the Border Police and the medical institutions. I assure you that any case that will be registered will be made public," said the Minister of Health.

At the same time, Viorica Dumbrăveanu gave assurances that the medical institutions are ready to deal with any possible coronavirus infection.

“The medical institutions are prepared to deal with the situation and are 96.6 percent provided with the necessary stocks of medicines for 60 days. Certain products may also be picked up at the Health Procurement Center. We have flu drugs in stock. WHO will provide a lot of help for special protective equipment,” said Viorica Dumbrăveanu.

"You mentioned that public health is not just about the Ministry of Health. I would like to ask you to tell me about other actions that they undertake, including the interaction of the ministry with the large companies where hundreds and thousands of employees work, I refer to the private and state-owned enterprises, if these companies fulfill some requirements established by the Ministry of Health, the protection of the employees is respected and if protective measures have been taken,” said the socialist deputy Vasile Bolea.

"The issuance of the Yellow Warning implies the responsibility of each and of the employers to provide protection measures for the employees. We also provide training, especially at these institutions where there is a large concentration of staff,” replied the Minister of Health.

In turn, PAS deputy Igor Grosu asked about the measures being taken at the border.

"There are thermal scanners at the airport. What are we doing at the land border? How can they detect whether or not the man has a fever? They have another mission. Considering that we have a case in Romania, how well they are equipped to really make sure that no one who carries this infection penetrates,” asked the PAS deputy.

"They are not equipped with thermal-scanners, due to the discomfort of the people who have to get off the bus, regardless of the vehicle they cross the border, especially when it comes to children, and then there is thermometry, with those thermometers with which the Border Police is equipped. The person can take something and when he crosses the state border he does not have a fever, he can be in the first days after the outbreak of infection and he can also have no fever,” stated the minister Viorica Dumbrăveanu.

According to data presented by the Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection, Viorica Dumbrăveanu, in the morning hours, in the world, 82,132 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed and 2,801 deaths, including 2,745 deaths in China. New cases of infection were registered in Georgia - 1 case, Greece - 1, Macedonia - 1, Romania - 1, officially confirmed.
