Maia Sandu at the CSM meeting: "Those who commit illegal decisions must be dismissed from the system"

The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) must start the actual clean-up of the judiciary, otherwise these will be dismissed, Prime Minister Maia Sandu said this morning in the meeting of SCM.

"The people who made illegal decisions must be dismissed and the people who are honest and fair must be promoted,  otherwise we will not be able to continue working and we must give up the use  of double standards. There are decisions you need to take right away", said Maia Sandu said in the meeting.

Also, the official expressed dissatisfaction with the transparency of the trials.

"Transparency of court processes and the transparency of decisions must be ensured. We all know that they have intervened with all sorts of bureaucratic procedures. They tried to limit access to system information, to decisions and procedures through all kinds of personal data protection policies. This must stop immediately. All the decisions you take,  must be fair and not to raise any suspicion", said Maia Sandu.

The prime minister accused the SCM members of not reacting to more illegal judicial decisions, she meant the cancellation of the local elections in Chisinau last summer.

"We all know the importance of the Superior Council of Magistracy. You're going to say there were political pressures, all sorts of interferences. I understand, this is not a justification to stay with the disaster in court. You know that all kinds of illegal decisions were taken, these made us  "famous" all over the world. For example, the decision to cancel the election results in Chisinau. What followed after that? How did your sector react? How did the SCM react to this decision? Everybody was upset both in Chisinau and in Brussels and other European capitals", said the prime minister.

She also urged honest magistrates to report any kind of pressure.

"I will support them in  their independent work. When someone feels external pressures, we will do our best to eliminate them ", said Maia Sandu.
