Several retirees in the capital request higher pensions

They request the amendment of the law on the public pension system in the country. Several retirees from the capital protested in front of the Parliament with banners in hand and chanting "Stop genocide of Moldovans". They have urged elected MPs to increase their pensions so that they could guarantee their subsistence, reports Moldova 1.

"They themselves promised that the pension will be twice as high as the minimum of existence, we ask for at least the minimum of existence and we pray very much that this to be done through Parliament. The minimum subsistence for a pensioner is 4,185 lei," said Andrei Donică, president of the "Professionals Speranţa" movement.

In front of the demonstrators, Arina Spataru and Oazu Nantoi went out.

"There are two things we need to do to increase your pensions. The first thing we need to do quickly is to stop theft and return the stolen money to the country. That would allow us to change the situation for the better. As long as we have no honest, competent government, we will not be able to stop the young people leaving the country, and if people leave the country, who will care for us," said Oazu Nantoi, MP of the bloc ACUM.

On January 1, Parliament approved a draft law in the final reading, which foresaw a 10 percent increase in pensions lower than the minimum subsistence level, ie 1,589 lei.
