The Botanical Garden celebrates 70 years since its founding

The "Alexandru Ciubotaru" National Botanical Garden celebrates today, October 30, 70 years since its founding.

The anniversary was marked by a scientific conference, organized online, attended by the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Igor Sharov, the management of the Botanical Garden (Institute) "Alexandru Ciubotaru" and representatives of academia.

Minister Igor Sharov highlighted the results of numerous researches of Moldovan botanists, which deepened the studies on the flora and vegetation of Moldova. They also systematized and developed proposals for protection, rational use of vulnerable species and endangered species and developed measures for forest fund management, phytocenoses and agrocenoses.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the National Botanical Garden "Alexandru Ciubotaru", the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research sends in these beautiful autumn days a warm greeting and our special consideration for the efforts of those who, 70 years ago, laid the foundation stone of this scientific sanctuary, as well as those who promoted, step by step, this research institution, this center of ecological education," mentioned Igor Şarov.

According to Prime Minister Ion Chicu, "the cultural symbolism of the National Botanical Garden is expressed by the fact that the general landscape of the garden was designed and developed by its founders, so that its shape represents in miniature the relief of the Republic of Moldova."

"The 70th anniversary of the National Botanical Garden "Alexandru Ciubotaru" offers me a special opportunity to appreciate the value and achievements of all those who have worked with dedication over time to build, maintain, save and develop this object of national heritage of science and culture. There are 70 years of botanical research, elaboration and implementation of landscape art projects, ecological education and training of botanist researchers, research and other activities through which the institution has acquired an essential role in the life and development of the country," reads the congratulatory message from the Prime Minister.

The anniversary of the Botanical Garden is an occasion of homage to its founder - the late academician Alexandru Ciubotaru, says the President of the Parliament, Zinaida Greceanii.

"On behalf of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and my staff, I extend my sincere congratulations and words of gratitude to the current and former employees of the institute. We will be with you in the efforts to capitalize on and continuously develop the potential of the Botanical Garden. We want the institution to be worthy of the enthusiasm of those who founded it seven decades ago, but also of a prosperous future among the most elegant botanical gardens in the world," specified Zinaida Greceanii.

The Botanical Garden was created in 1950, the activity sustained over the years contributing to the transformation of the institution into a research center with a special importance, whose scientists find solutions to the current priority problems of natural sciences. The Botanical Garden covers an area of 104 hectares and counts about ten thousand species, varieties, forms and plants, which all year round delight the eyes and soul of the visitor.
