The ECHR condemns Russia for paying over 100,000 euros for four schools on the left bank of the Dniester

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ordered Russia to pay € 126,000 in non-pecuniary damage and € 5,000 in representation expenses to teachers, pupils and parents of four schools teaching Romanian in the left bank of the Dniester. According to a statement from the Promo-LEX Association, the ECtHR decision was made public on September 17, writes IPN.

"The European Court of Human Rights has issued eight judgments that include 17 cases concerning human rights violations in the Transnistrian region," the statement said.

According to the quoted source, the first judgment refers to the case of Iovcev and 13 others, against the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation. "The applicants are teachers, employees, students and parents from four schools teaching Latin writing in the Transnistrian region: Theoretical High School" Lucian Blaga "from Tiraspol, Theoretical High School" Mihai Eminescu "from Dubăsari, Theoretical High School" Stefan cel Mare and Saint "from Grigoriopol and the Gymnasium from Corjova village, Dubasari district ”, says Promo-LEX.

The statement reminds that, in February 2014, the director of the Theoretical High School "Lucian Blaga" from Tiraspol, Ion Iovcev, the accountant and the driver of the educational institution were stopped by the Transnistrian militia, and were subsequently deprived of their liberty. They were accused of smuggling money, when they tried to pass the so-called customs, having teachers' salaries.
