Orthodox Christians today honor Stefan cel Mare si Sfint

Today, the Orthodox Christians of the Republic of Moldova honor the voivode Stefan cel Mare si Sfint. His reign was marked by numerous battles, mostly with the Turks, which had become a threat to Europe.

The most important victory over the Turks was obtained by Stefan cel Mare at the High Bridge, near Vaslui, on January 10, 1475, with an army three times smaller than that of the invaders.

The canonization of Stefan cel Mare came a few hundred years later, although he was honored as a saint by the people since his death.

According to the State Population Register, there are over ten thousand people in Moldova celebrating their name day today.
