New buses might run on the streets of the capital

Soon, on the streets of the capital, new buses might circulate. Chisinau City Hall plans to purchase 100 vehicles from Belarus. If the municipal elected officials will support the initiative of Ion Ceban, the buses could be assembled in Chisinau and put on line in June, reports Moldova 1.

The buses could be purchased under a co-financing agreement with the Minsk Government. To be implemented, the initiative must be voted by the Chisinau Municipal Council.

Residents of the capital say the new vehicles could solve the problem of public transport in the city.

"With buses, the trolley buses is more order than with the maxi-taxi, which make a lot of turmoil in the city." "The city will be much freer, I am also a driver. Although we do not use public transport, why not, let it be a financial contribution to the city, the municipal enterprise, the City Hall,” say the people.

Earlier this week, several maxi-taxi drivers did not go out in protest and demanded the cost of a trip to be increased. In response, Mayor Ion Ceban said he would terminate contracts with minibus administrators.

Currently, the Urban Bus Park has 143 transport units, with an average age of over 14 years.
