Coach Vasile Colţa dies of COVID-19

Judo Coach of the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria Vasile Colţa died last night because of type of Coronavirus. Representatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research wrote in an obituary posted on the institution's website that the entire sports community in the Republic of Moldova is deeply saddened by the death of coach Vasile Colţa.

During his activity as coach-teacher and head coach of the National Judo Team, Vasile Colţa trained with a lot of effort, character, discipline and self-dedication, multiple talented and high performance athletes. They represented with honor and dignity the Republic of Moldova on the international arena at the "Judo" sports events: European and world championships, universities and international tournaments.

For special merits in the development of sport, substantial contribution to the training of performance athletes and prodigious methodological-didactic activity, he was awarded the following state distinctions: "Emeritus Coach", "Order of Honor" and "Golden Order" (Bulgaria).

The President of the Sports Press Association of the Republic of Moldova, Eduard Ciobanu, wrote on his Facebook page that Vasile Colţa will remain for all a model of dedication, explosive energy and intelligence. Thanks to him, this Olympic event in such a small state as the Republic of Moldova has undergone an unprecedented development, and Moldovan judokas have become a formidable force not only in Europe, but also in other world countries, said Eduard Ciobanu.
