Unprecedented situation in beekeeping

Due to the unfavorable weather conditions, beekeepers are facing the most difficult situation in the last 30 years. Drought, then frosts and low temperatures in May, non-specific for this time of year, made the market almost entirely absent acacia honey, from which beekeepers obtained the highest profit, reports Moldova 1.

Under these conditions, beekeepers estimate that this year's honey production will not exceed ten percent.

The president of the National Association of Beekeepers of the Republic of Moldova states that this year the state should give more support to beekeepers.

"We do not ask for money directly. Maybe it would be appropriate to help us with some sugar at a lower price, so that we have some help, because now in the national economy or on the market sugar is at a price of 12 lei and something, but if it were at nine lei, it is still a support for beekeepers," says the president of the National Association of Beekeepers of the Republic of Moldova, Ion Maxim.

One kilogram of acacia honey from the current year's production is sold in markets with a maximum of 150 lei per kilogram, linden honey with 100 lei, and polyfloral honey with 80 lei.
