Historical monument in Stefan-Voda district, vandalized

A historical monument erected during the interwar period in memory of the Romanian hero Aurelian Mihailescu was vandalized in Olanesti, Stefan Voda district. The monument was to be inaugurated this week, after the restoration, said project initiator Iulian Rusanovschi for Radio Moldova.

"The  inauguration of the monument of the hero Aurelian Mihăilescu from the village of Olăneşti was set for November 29 at 12:00. I learned the day before yesterday from the mayor of the village that the monument was vandalized. Respectively, all the inscriptions related to donors, including this captain, were removed with the hammer and covered with a layer of lime. The mayor refused to file a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office to identify the perpetrators", said Iulian Rusanovschi.

MP Octavian Ţîcu argues that he will order the initiation of an investigation on this case.

"As MP, I will order the initiation of an investigation in this case. I request the reaction of the Minister of Education, Research and Culture, as well as that of the head of the district Stefan Voda. I believe that Romanian citizens involved in anti-Romanian actions should be deprived of Romanian citizenship", Octavian Ţîcu wrote on facebook.

It is worth mentioning that the monument was first completely destroyed in 1944. The monument was erected during the interwar period in honor of the guards on duty, especially in the memory of Captain Mihăilescu Aurelian from the 2nd Border Guard Regiment.
