Orheiul Vechi Reservation, stormed by Moldovans

No tourists from abroad due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, but with a large flow of visitors from the Republic of Moldova. In anticipation of better days, the employees of the Cultural-Natural Reserve "Orheiul Vechi" diversify their sphere of activity and urge people to behave more civilized in this famous area, Moldova 1 reports.

Some of those who came to admire the surroundings from the height of the slope hurried to the monastery, others walked on the streets of Butuceni village.

"I believe that the old things must remain as they are, but they can also be improved. We are here for the first time." "I came from Vulcanesti, from the south of Moldova. I haven't been to these lands before, it's gorgeous". "Wonderful places, impressive rocks - a beauty," say tourists.

And if tourists from abroad no longer arrive in Orheiul Vechi due to the pandemic, the flow of visitors from the Republic of Moldova has increased, and from here some problems.

"Lack of culture, we are mostly talking about the chaotic flow of cars, illegal parking, non-payment of the tax on entering the reservation territory. We don't manage to cope with the employees in collecting the garbage from the visitors," says the director of the reservation, Ion Ciobanu.

The new attraction of the reservation is the exhibition pavilion, which houses a real treasure discovered by archaeologists in the depths of the earth, here, in Orheiul Vechi.

"Objects from the Stone Age, the 16th century. The first excavations were made in 1947, they were resumed in 1968 and many objects are kept in the collection of our museum, others are at the National Museum of History in Chisinau," says Nely Golea, guide.

Along with the archeological vestiges, the exhibition "Gulag Testimonies" is held.

"At the initiative of the ProMemoria Institute, the State University and the Institute of History, we tried to arrange this exhibition dedicated to those who suffered from deportations," says the director of the reservation, Ion Ciobanu.

Now, employees are preparing for a new exhibition of recently discovered objects on the territory of the reservation, which will be inaugurated on October 6 and will be part of the events dedicated to the European Heritage Days.
