Damage caused by rainfall in Comrat

Four days after the heavy rains on Sunday, the households in Comrat remain in a disastrous state. The mud brought by the water penetrated the houses and causes a pungent odor. Local authorities continue to assess the damage caused by rainfall. It is estimated that about two million lei are needed to compensate for the losses and to remedy the consequences, reports Moldova 1.

As a result of the rainfall, several households were flooded. The water drowned gardens, cellars, garages, but also several houses, affecting furniture and appliances. People have managed to clean the surfaces of mud and garbage, but they have to live in damp rooms. They are waiting for help from the authorities.

The local emergency commission is assessing the damage caused by heavy rainfall.

"We offered first aid, we intervened from day one, we took the mud, an emergency meeting of the council was convened and it was decided to allocate over 100,000 lei. It is necessary for several rivers in the region to be cleaned in order for the water to be evacuated," says the mayor of Comrat, Gheorghe Sara.

"We are at the stage of assessing the damage, but we need support, if it is possible to allocate from the emergency fund. We will also meet at the level of the Executive Committee and we will support each family," stated the mayor of Gagauzia, Irina Vlah.

President Igor Dodon paid a working visit in the region.

"We came to inspect the affected area. Next week, we will make changes to the budget, I will talk to the prime minister to allocate money for this issue, the registered damages must be evaluated," declared the president Igor Dodon.
