Cantemir: A new water filtration station could be put into operation by September

The works at the Cantemir treatment plant are on the last hundred meters. By September, a new water filtration station in the city could be put into operation. In addition, approximately 17 km of sewer pipes will be modernized, which will bring more convenience for 3,500 people both in the city and in the surrounding localities. The works are financed by the European Union, which has allocated €5.2 million in this regard, Moldova 1 reports.

"Currently, the works are being carried out intensively. We hope that in September all the installations will be put into operation. The project includes not only the construction of the treatment plant, but also the modernization and rehabilitation of the sewerage system," said Roman Ciubaciuc, the mayor of Cantemir.

The new sewerage system is being built in the center of Cantemir and will have three pumping stations. Through it, wastewater from the city, but also from nearby localities, is to be properly treated and emitted safely, so as not to pollute the soil and groundwater.

"The project is expected to last 18 months, the works were started in 2020 and planned until August 2021. In total we have as networks about 17 km, including connections to private homes and blocks of flats. The project starts in a pretty good tempo," said Tudor Delejanu, technical inspector.

The sewerage and treatment system in Cantemir was installed in 1960, when the city was built. The total cost of the project is six million euros, of which €5.2 million were provided by the EU, and €800,000 were allocated by the Austrian Development Agency.
