Prime Minister Maia Sandu discusses with local public authorities in Moldova

The executive will support each mayor, regardless of political affiliation, said PM Maria Sandu in a discussion with the local public authorities. The event also focused on decentralization and the amendments to be approved shortly by the parliamentary majority. Mayor’s offices in Moldova talked about the most relevant issues in their localities and solutions from the new government, Moldova 1 TV reports.

"There are problems related to the financial decentralization and implementation of the Administrative and Financial Decentralization Strategy, that was issued several years ago. We would like to make a common roadmap," said Nicolae Tudoreanu, mayor of Feşteliţa commune (Ştefan Voda).

"We are waiting for a reply to the prestigiously initiated governmental programs. We started many projects”. In Costesti, there is a touristic sport complex that is to be completed this year", said Natalia Petrea, mayor of Costeşti.

Prime Minister Maia Sandu said that the new Government will work to strengthen the dialogue with the mayor’s offices in Moldova.

"We  will consolidate democratic institutions and processes, and local public administration is one of the pillars of democracy. This Executive will treat all local elected officials, regardless of political affiliation, we will begin the process of real decentralization, there will be financing from foreign partners and a  direct financing to the local public administration", said Maia Sandu.

"We will propose a bill expressing that local elections take place on a given day, every four years, in the initial variant, we mean the third Sunday of October and this date will not  depend on any state body, "said Sergiu Litvinenco, president of parliamentary commission.

Representatives of over 700 communities participated in the discussion.
