Ion Chicu after the visit from Kiev: I am pleased to find that the mutually beneficial dialogue at the Government level was restored

The dialogue between Moldova and Ukraine at the Government level has been restored, and the sides agreed on several agreements for the next year. These include the readiness of Ukraine to supply Moldova with natural gas and electricity in case of need, as well as holding the meeting of the Commission for Intergovernmental Cooperation in March, during which our country will be visited by the Prime Minister of Ukraine. Prime Minister Ion Chicu spoke about his visit to Ukraine, in a meeting held at the Government.

The prime minister said that during the two meetings held with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, all aspects of Moldova’s supply with natural gas were agreed. Ion Chicu  is confident that Russia and Ukraine will reach an agreement on gas transit.  According to the PM, in emergency situation, the neighboring country, will supply Moldova with natural gas and electricity.

"After yesterday's discussion we are optimistic that Ukraine and Russia will reach an agreement on gas transit and we will receive natural gas on the common pipeline. We discussed yesterday in Kiev possible scenarios, including supply of gas in reverse regime and we  have to sign contracts, we have all the support from Ukraine to complete this process in the least restrictive terms. Also, the Ukrainian side has assured us that it is ready to provide us with natural gas and electricity after January 1, if any of these supply schemes do not work, "said Ion Chicu.

Another problem solved in Kiev, according to Ion Chicu, was the permission for Moldovan carriers to cross the Ukrainian territory.

"The problem of international transport was blocked, due to the lack of transport authorizations. We managed to unblock the situation, so that our carriers could cross the territory of Ukraine to Russia and other countries in the region", said the prime minister.

Following the meetings of the two prime ministers, a common agenda was established.

"I find with satisfaction that the mutually beneficial dialogue at Government level has been restored and as a result of these two meetings we already have agreements for next year," said Ion Chicu.

The prime minister said that the common agenda includes 14 issues, which will be examined by March, so that compromises can be identified at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission. Ion Chicu announced that Moldova will be visited by the Prime Minister of Ukraine in March.

We remind that on Thursday, December 12, Prime Minister Ion Chicu was in Kiev at the summit of the heads of government of the GUAM member states.
