The Constitutional Court examines the referral of Igor Dodon

The Constitutional Court examines the referral of the head of state, Igor Dodon, regarding the interpretation of Article 98 of the Supreme Law. The presidency wants to find out whether the head of state "is obliged to initiate the procedure of consulting the parliamentary factions and submitting a candidate for the post of prime minister in the absence of Parliament's governing bodies," reports Radio Moldova.

The lawyers of the Presidency explained that this interpretation of the Supreme Law was needed because, if the Legislative was not functioning, the appointment of a prime minister by the head of state would be a formality without legal effects.
