Countries most affected by COVID-19

The United States, Brazil and India lead the list of diseases with the new Coronavirus with almost five million cases, followed by Russia. And as more and more outbreaks of infection appear in the world, new protective measures are being re-imposed, and the mask is becoming mandatory even in open spaces. For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, President Donald Trump wore a protective mask in public, Moldova 1 reports.

The American leader decided to put on his mask when he went to a military hospital near Washington. It was not just any mask, but a personalized one, dark blue, with the presidential logo embroidered on one side. Donald Trump said he was never against masks, just that they should be worn at the right time.

"I think when you're in a hospital, especially in this situation, where you're talking to a lot of soldiers anddoctors , I think it's a good thing to wear a mask,"  said Donald Trump.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Donald Trump has made several statements against wearing protective masks to combat COVID.

The United States remains the worst affected country, with the daily number of new infections exceeding 60,000 for the fifth day in a row, but the death toll per million inhabitants is quite low compared to other countries in the world.

In Spain, the number of outbreaks of COVID-19 is growing alarmingly from day to day. After Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, the obligation to wear a mask also extended to Extremadura, and some autonomous communities imposed new restrictions and drastic sanctions.

In the south of the country, some localities are demanding the closure of the border with Portugal.

"Since the reopening of the border on July 1, we have noticed a negative evolution of the pandemic, so we call for the closure of the border until the establishment of a cross-border action protocol," said Ramon Diaz Farias, mayor of Villanueva del Frenso.

Italy is on the verge of extending the state of emergency after July 31 to keep the virus under control, and Lampedusa authorities are calling for an emergency in the region as soon as possible after about 800 immigrants have arrived in recent days.

"I am amazed that the head of the Sicily region came to analyze the situation on the spot, but I invited Prime Minister Conte to come and see what is happening in Lampedusa," said Salvatore Martello, mayor of Lampedusa.

Startign with next week, in Croatia, wearing a mask will become mandatory in most enclosed public spaces, as the number of Coronavirus cases continues to rise.

Greece has temporarily suspended travelling for tourists, and as of July 15, all foreign nationals entering the country by car through the Kulata-Promachonas border crossing for tourist purposes are required to submit a negative test for COVID-19 infection.

Russia registers around seven thousand new cases of coronavirus every day, bringing the national infection rate to over 700 thousand.
