The Prime Minister of Lebanon announced the resignation of the Government

Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced the resignation of his government on Monday evening, six days after the devastating explosion in the port of the capital Beirut, which left hundreds dead and thousands injured, Moldova 1 reports.

The head of government blamed the traditional political class for its failures, denouncing the "corruption" that led to "this earthquake that hit the country". Hassan Diab insisted on fighting the corrupt, stressing the need for a national rescue government.

For many Lebanese, the blast was the last straw in a protracted crisis caused by the collapse of the economy, corruption and inefficient governance, so they took to the streets to demand radical change.

On August 4, more than 2,000 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded, killing at least 163 people, injuring another 6,000 and leaving between 250,000 and 300,000 homeless.
