WHO raises international alert on new coronavirus to "very high" level

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the alert level regarding the risk of the spread and impact of coronavirus to the "very high" level. In Italy, there are already 21 dead and about 900 illnesses. The number of deaths in Iran would be six times higher than the official figures, and in South Korea the number of illnesses reached almost 3,000 after 600 people were tested positive in a single day, reports Moldova 1.

The Italian authorities claim that half of the contaminated persons are hospitalized and the other half are isolated at home. At the same time, the Government announced that it will pay the bills for electricity, gas and mortgage rates of the Italians in the areas affected by coronavirus.

"The government has prepared a package of measures that will improve the negative economic effects of the epidemic on the population," said Stefano Patuanelli, Minister for Economic Development.

In the United Kingdom, the first death due to coronavirus was recorded. This is a passenger on the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

In Romania, there are three confirmed cases so far. In Israel, people who come from Italy and do not have Israeli citizenship are prohibited from entering the country. Russia will deport 88 foreign nationals who have allegedly violated quarantine measures. WHO has raised the level of global alert for coronavirus to the highest level, but so far it has not declared a pandemic.

"The increase in the number of cases and the countries affected in the last days is clearly worrying. We raised the assessment of the global risk of propagation and of the impact of Covid-19 at the very high level,” mentioned Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director.

Medical sources in Iran say the death toll would exceed 200, but officials have announced only 34 deaths and reject information.

In South Korea - the most affected country after China is growing alarmingly. There are huge tails for protective masks. Currently, over 50 countries and regions are affected by Covid-19. Globally, there are more than 85 thousand confirmed cases, of which almost 3,000 have died, the vast majority being in China.
