Belarus: Authorities announce the release of more than a thousand protesters

Belarusian authorities have released more than a thousand people arrested during violently repressed protests sparked by the re-election on Sunday of 26-year-old President Lukashenko, according to an announcement made by the Minsk Senate President on Thursday, AFP reports, quoted by Agerpres.

"More than a thousand people have been released with the obligation not to participate in unauthorized demonstrations," Natalia Kocianova told state television.

For his part, Interior Minister Yuri Karaev apologized for police violence against "passers-by" who were not involved in the protests.
