About 1500 people died in France because of heat stroke

About 1500 people lost their lives as a result of the heat waves that hit France this summer, said on Sunday French Health Minister Agnès Buzyn, quoted by Reuters and Mediafax .

Thus, a total of 1435 deaths were recorded this summer. In the first wave of hives, 567 people died at the end of June and the beginning of July, and another 868 died following the second wave, since the end of July.

The minister pointed out that the number of deaths this summer is much lower than that recorded in the summer of 2003, when 15,000 people died in France due to extreme temperatures.

Buzyn informed that half of the people who died this year from the heat were over 75 years old and added that French society must make efforts to adapt to climate change. "These periods of heat will repeat and, most likely, will intensify in the coming years," said the minister.

This year's summer marked a surpassing of the temperature record in France, when on June 28 there were 46 degrees Celsius in the town of Vérargues, according to Météo France.
