56 people died in China due to coronavirus

China's viral pneumonia outbreak has risen to 56 dead and nearly 2,000 infected, local authorities announced Sunday, one day after President Xi Jinping's warning about acceleration the spread of the new type of coronavirus, AFP reports, quoted by Agerpres.

As of Monday, Chinese travel agencies will no longer be able to sell hotel reservations and group stays, according to China's public television station.

This crisis occurred during the Chinese New Year holiday season when the citizens of this country travel in large numbers, taking advantage of their seven days of vacation to be with their families.

Nearly 500 military doctors were transferred to Wuhan, the metropolis of central China, where the virus appeared in December, a city then de facto quarantined. Chinese authorities have announced the emergency construction of two hospitals for patients infected with the new type of coronavirus.

15 new deaths were recorded, including a first person deceased in Shanghai, and another 688 new cases of coronavirus infections were confirmed, the number of infections reaching a total of 1,976 across the country.

A first Chinese city, Shantou, more than 1,000 kilometers south of Wuhan, will implement, on Sunday, starting at 24:00 local time (16:00 GMT), measures to restrict access to all vehicles - except those they play an essential role - in this metropolis with over five million inhabitants.

Authorities in Tianjin, which has more than 15 million inhabitants, have also announced the suspension of long-distance buses from Monday, becoming the second largest Chinese metropolis to implement such a measure after Beijing.
