ADEPT: New parliamentary elections are not very attractive to citizens

The new parliamentary elections are not very attractive to the citizens, because it is a new electoral exercise. In the no. 38 constituency in Hânceşti, the last local elections and the 2019 parliamentary elections showed a negative tendency of voter turnout of this constituency in elections. In this context, it would be necessary to have motivating factors for citizens so that they participate in the poll. These are the findings of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT in conjunction with the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections.

"Citizens from 25 settlements in Hancesti district are expected to elect an MP on March 15, to represent them in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The last local elections and the 2019 parliamentary elections showed a negative tendency of voter turnout in the constituency Nb.38.  In the local elections, there participated 37% of voters from Hancesti district and 40% of people participated in parliamentary elections”, said the secretary of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections Polina Panainte.

The executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT Igor Boţan considers "worrying" the reduced participation of the inhabitants of this constituency in the vote.

"In Hânceşti district, the voter turnout in general and local parliamentary elections is lower than the national average. This is worrying, because Hancesti district is one of the largest districts in Moldova. It is located in the central economic area of the Republic of Moldova”, said Igor Botan,  executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT.
