Less apples for export this year
The hailstorms from May and June compromised the quality of apples. The executive director of the Moldova Fruct Association Iurie Fală said that although the harvest is higher than last year, 670 thousand tons, the quality of the fruit was affected, Mesager reports.
According to Fală, due to hailstorms, the apple flowers were not pollinated. The Executive Director of Moldova Fruct Association also says that almost 60% of the estimated apple harvest will be processed. According to Iurie Fală, the EU countries had 13.3 million tons of apples last year, and this year they estimated to harvest 10.5 million tons.
