Duty – free shops on territory not controlled by constitutional entities to be closed in Moldova

The activity of duty – free shops on the territory not controlled by constitutional entities of Moldova will be closed. The draft was voted in two readings at the meeting of Parliament, on Friday, 19 July.

The legal framework established that duty – free shops sold goods under customs supervision, without applying economic policy measures, in specially arranged places at international crossing points of state border. The merchandise was marketed in duty – free shop without import duties.

The customs authorities have noticed that they have encountered a number of deficiencies in the implementation of these provisions, which made it impossible to monitor the flow of goods traded in duty – free shops.

The draft law will enter into force on the date of its publication in the Official  Gazette.
