Goji production has also been affected by this year of drought

Goji berries are known for their extraordinary health benefits, but also for their content of vitamins and chemicals. These Chinese fruits are grown in our country by 26 agricultural producers. One of them is Elena Ghimijuc from Sireţi village, Straseni, whose plantation covers one hectare. This year, the producer reaped the first harvest. Because the fruits are not hardy, she has to sell them in the country through online platforms, reports Moldova 1.

"Gojis is considered a luxury fruit of celebrities, because they contain many antioxidants, vitamin C in a fairly high concentration. They fight cancer, prevent diabetes, blood pressure, are beneficial for eyesight," says Elena Ghimijuc.

This year's drought has affected goji production. Some bushes had no fruit. The entrepreneur says the only solution was to irrigate the plantation.

"Apart from the fight against drought, we also had the fight against starlings. For a month, I practically didn't pick any fruit because they had nothing to eat," Elena adds.

The price of goji berries in the Republic of Moldova varies between 200 and 300 lei per kilogram, and the dehydrated ones can be purchased for 500 lei per kilogram.
