NBM, about blocking the accounts of several Transnistrian companies

They were asked for more transparency, but did not comply - this explains the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) blocking the accounts of several Transnistrian companies in banks in the Republic of Moldova, Mesager reports .

In a reaction given to the press, the central regulator says that it is about businesses not just from the Transnistrian region. The institution explained that it is about tightening the rules for preventing and combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The NBM states that the bank account holders were to act more transparently, according to the commitments they made. Subsequently, the licensed banks were forced to take measures regarding the companies that did not comply, including some companies from the Transnistrian region, but from the whole territory of the Republic of Moldova.

Currently, over 400 companies in this area have accounts in the licensed banks in Chisinau.
